“A decidedly raw/dry sound straight in your face, an acid feeling that drives the whole album by inserting rhythmic varieties from drum and bass to dubstep, EDM, and electro-rock elements. The varied use of synthesis and vocals is meant to create a dark, low-fi atmosphere.”

As if an electronic cutting had been implanted on a post-hardcore body, or as if Aoki had produced Gogogoairheart or The Union of a Man and a Woman. Complicated work combining elastic bass and vocal debauches in Upsong, making the insights that were Ratatat’s rough and real.

The record moves slyly along, with more uptempo instants that quote Daft Punk but cannot help but remind one of Dan Black’s voice as if it had been produced by a helium overdose after an alcoholic work party finished in the studio. This uninspired voice seems to be the stylistic hallmark of Frømm. Still, they can never bore by cutting everything superfluous from their tracks, pounding hard where it suits them and flying with multicoloured chemtrails when necessary, as in Plane.

They do not spare themselves, even bringing with them cumbersome figures such as a clash between Claudio Simonetti and Giorgio Moroder in an Inferno that sounds like it was sung by an old-time Edoardo Bennato, for a scenario that if told would not find bettors but which is perfectly functional.

With the outro, we are again in full darkness, for an album that is very fresh and well balanced between dancefloor and interior torment.

We used vocals with vocal transformer, pitch shifter, distortion+, electric bass, shermann filterbank, many analogue and digital synthesizers, field recordings, samplers and groove box, machinedrum and tracker.
